Brand activation ideas that work in UAE malls and events

Majid Al Futtaim: A new community, explored before it was built.
Majid Al Futtaim

UAE malls, exhibitions and festivals are full of people with time on their hands and phones in their pockets. A brand activation turns that crowd into an audience. It gives people a reason to stop, a way to try the brand, and something worth sharing.

These are the ideas that work, and the planning behind them.

Ideas that work

1. Let people try it. Tasting, testing, playing and wearing beat watching. If people can get their hands on your product, let them.

2. Show what can’t be seen yet. Some products don’t exist in a form people can touch yet, such as a property off plan, a service or a platform. Digital experiences can bring them to life.

3. Build it around a moment. Ramadan, Eid, National Day, back to school and big exhibitions all bring crowds who are ready to engage. An activation tied to the moment feels like part of it, not an interruption.

4. Make it worth sharing. Design one spot people want to photograph, and make your brand part of the picture. Every post takes the activation beyond the people who were there.

5. Give people a game. Challenges, prizes and leaderboards keep people at the stand longer and bring their friends back.

6. Capture the follow-up. A QR code, a sign-up or a booking on the spot turns visitors into leads you can talk to after the day.

How to plan one

  1. Start from the goal: awareness, leads, sales, sign-ups or content. Each one leads to a different idea.
  2. Choose the place for the audience, not for the footfall alone.
  3. Talk to the venue early. Malls and event venues have their own approvals, timings and rules.
  4. Plan the journey: how people arrive, what they do, how long it takes, and what they leave with.
  5. Staff it well. The people on the stand are the brand on the day.
  6. Cover it. Photo, video and live social posts extend the reach well beyond the space.

Two activations we’ve delivered

Majid Al Futtaim: Tilal Al Ghaf. For one of the first launches of this new residential community, high-net-worth buyers needed to see and feel it before a single home was ready. We took charge of every digital screen in the activation:

  • designed the experience and the journey through the space;
  • created the content, so visitors could explore Tilal Al Ghaf as a place to live.

More than 200 high-net-worth buyers walked through it. Read the Majid Al Futtaim case study.

Dubai World Trade Centre. Across GITEX and its family of events, our integrated marketing for DWTC included marketing activations and campaign ideas, alongside websites, digital ads and social media. DWTC brought us back event after event.

How we deliver activations at Talk The Walk

Idea, design, digital experience, content and coverage come from one team, so the activation and the marketing around it tell the same story, in Arabic and English.

FAQ

What is a brand activation?

A live experience that lets people meet a brand in person: try it, play with it, feel it. It turns a message into something people do, not just something they see.

What is the difference between an event and a brand activation?

An event gathers people for an occasion. A brand activation is built around one brand and one goal, often inside a place people already are, such as a mall, an exhibition or a festival.

How do you measure a brand activation?

Set the goal first, then count it: visitors, sign-ups, leads, samples given, sales, or content created and shared. Capture data on the day, so you can follow up after.

How far ahead should you plan an activation?

Allow time for the idea, design, production and the venue's approvals. Malls and event venues have their own rules and deadlines, so involve them early.
